Michael John Myers

Michael John Myers died on June 28, 2019 in Spring Hill, Florida at the age of 73. He was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania on June 6, 1946 to Dixie Collins Shirk and William W. Myers. He was raised in Downingtown by his mother and step-father Earl W. Shirk, along with brothers Dennis Myers, Stephen Shirk, David Shirk and sister Tammy Houston. He graduated from Downingtown High School in 1964 and served in the United States Marine Corps in ground to air communications as a technician. There he built a strong love for problem solving and an appitude for electronics.

He married Johanna Miles Edge in 1979 and moved to Vermont. While in Vermont, Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Services with a focus in Psychology. He worked in the field, primarily with disadvantaged youth.

In 1994, he and family returned to Pennsylvania where he and Johanna started an advertising agency. He was a knowledgeable and skilled entrepreneur who built a business for over 20 years that served Lancaster County, PA.

He and Johanna retired to Spring Hill, Florida in 2015 and spent their retirement boating, traveling, sun seeking and working on various projects together. Michael was a perpetual student and teacher, who greatly valued learning and hard work.

Michael is survived by his wife of 40 years, Johanna, and their children Jacob Edge (Kristine), Martha Schrag (Darrell), Sarah Rossi (Edward), Hannah Myers (Andrew) and their families. Donations can be made in his name to The Hospice Foundation, www.chaptershealth.org.
