Mary Elmore Williams (September 19, 1931-October 8, 2019). A devoted wife, mother, educator, and community leader. Mary was born and raised in San Angelo, Texas. She earned a Bachelors degree from Texas Christian University and later earned a Masters Degree from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. She married Mark Williams, a Methodist Minister, in 1951 and recently celebrated 68 years of marriage with him. As is said of great men, Mary was the even greater woman behind Mark as well as her family. As a Minister’s wife, she led many church groups and Sunday School classes, and was a consummate host, fostering fellowship throughout Mark’s congregations. She was very active in many civic and philanthropic organizations as well. Mary was recognized numerous times for her good works. She was named Teacher of the Year for Corpus Christi Independent School District in 1990 and selected as only the 3rd recipient of TCU College of Education’s Excellence in Education Award in 1996. Mary worked on many civic projects in Corpus Christi including the constructions of “A Kid’s Place” along the bay front and securing Corpus Christi as the permanent home for the Columbus replica ships. She was a truly great woman who never met a stranger and who was loved dearly by her friends, students, and most of all her family. Mary is survived by her husband, Mark; son, John Mark Williams; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Williams; daughter, Mary Jean (Williams) Jacobson along with grandchildren, Alexander Bradford Jacobson, Nicholas Brian Jacobson, Mary Taylor Williams, Katherine Rebecca Williams, Mark Patrick Williams; and great-granddaughter Olivia Mary Anne Greising Jacobson.
