Marlene J. Hoedt (née Holton) passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories. Born on December 9, 1938, in Staples, Minnesota, to William J. Holton and Evelyn E. Lee Holton. She was preceded in death by her father, William; her mother, Evelyn; her stepfather, Owen B. Frombach; her beloved husband of 50 years, Frederick R. L. Hoedt; her brother-in-law, William Hoedt and wife Phyllis; and her sister-in-law, Florance and her husband Richard King.
Marlene’s love lives on through her three devoted sons:
• Oldest son Frederick "Dusty" Hoedt, grandchildren Cheryl Ann Moore (Robert Moore) & Nichole Lee Oyola (Jose Oyola); Great-grandchildren: Alyssa Hill (Connor Hill), Logan Moore, Nicolas Briceno, Jose L. Oyola, and a great-great-grandchild Amelia Hill.
• Middle son Delbert O. Hoedt.
• Youngest son Ernest “Randy” S. Hoedt and wife Angela, Grandchildren: Megan Leslie (Matthew Leslie), Sean Hoedt, and great-grandchild Maggie May Leslie.
She also leaves behind her niece, Sarah Bridges, her nephew, Lawrence “Wally” Hoedt, and great-nephew, Ben Bridges. Marlene is survived by the children of her late sister-in-law Mable: Richard, Mable, and Edward. Her sisters of heart: Mary Baldwin, Christine Warren, and the memory of her cherished friend Jackie Knowles-Benton (preceded 2024), will forever hold her close. Marlene’s legacy as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend will be cherished by all who knew her. Known for her warmth, generosity, nurturing spirit, and created a sense of belonging, Marlene was the heart of her family. Whether through her caring role as a den mother in Boy Scouts, making baby blankets for loved ones, or creating memorable gatherings with her famous cinnamon buns and pickled watermelon rind, Marlene’s love was felt by everyone around her. Marlene and her husband Fred shared a strong bond in their faith as longtime members of Land O’ Lakes First Methodist Church, where they found both community and lifelong friendships. She was also switchboard operator at Bell Telephone, where she met Fred on a trip to Florida, beginning a love story that would last over five decades. Her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her will continue to carry the warmth of her spirit in their hearts. Marlene’s gentle spirit and boundless love have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her memory will be treasured, and her love will continue to resonate in the lives she touched. She will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery alongside her beloved Fred.
