Loyd De Carroll joined his son, father, sister, and beloved mother on July 12, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Carroll, and his two daughters, Dana Goedel and Sarrah Carroll Glassner, who he adored. Loyd loved Sharon, a tribute to their 35-year dedication to one another. Lifting spirits and never being deterred regardless of the obstacles they faced, he was a committed spouse.
Loyd was a patriot. While he never envisioned himself a veteran – reserving that honor for those who served in the theater of war – he served in the Air Force, the Army and retired with additional federal service at the Environmental Protection Agency. He was humble and held himself to very high standards. His commitment to always doing the right thing impacted those around him and offered clear values when others sought guidance. His loyalty to enjoying life was held back only by his desire to arrive early, probably a result of his 20 years of military service.
When the internet arrived, he pioneered sharing jokes with any person who had an email address – extending amusement send after send. He was especially fond of sharing his love of Bailey’s and making the perfect margarita, and could often be found playing card games, something he did quite well until the very end. Loyd was a lover of food and music, and always enjoyed hosting friends by creating an atmosphere of laughter and hospitality. He watched movies that engaged his desire for humor and imagination, sharing these often with family and friends. Living in Las Vegas offered him a unique opportunity to explore each buffet, view endless shows, and sit beneath the stars watching live plays at Red Rock.
In his later years, he joined a movie club with his dear friends, shared laughs, and went for the free popcorn. In Florida, Loyd was deeply involved in his local community. He often knocked on doors and delivered newsletters as a block captain, served the local chapter of the Republican party, and was a member of the American Legion. Loyd loved helping others and never asked for anything in return. He was a selfless and wonderful soul.
Loyd leaves behind many friendships he accumulated through a long and generous life, including several from his military service who checked in on him until the end. He is preceded in death by his only son, Ray Carroll, who leaves behind his loving wife Ami and their four beautiful children Veronica, Anna, Emma and Levi. Loyd also had two granddaughters, Brooke and Faith, from Dana and Tim, while Sarrah and Dave blessed him with two of his youngest grandchildren, Ryker Ray and Stella Cole. Sharon's family also brought Loyd laughter: her brother Rob, her son Steve Whitebread, daughter Stephanie Henline, and her three boys, Jaden, Colton, and Landon. He was a wonderful grandpa and will always be remembered for how he could make the best Donald Duck impressions. His daughters will always remember how he gave the best hugs and kisses. No doubt, his beautiful blue eyes will be greatly missed by all.
Loyd’s final resting place will be in Honolulu, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, where he will join his son and where he met his wife. Loyd’s legacy will be an expression of his love – always giving, always serving others, and always offering generosity to anyone he met.
