Louis Edwin Dermody III, age 80, resident of Seminole, FL since 1977, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2023 after a lengthy illness with his family by his side at Suncoast Hospice in Pinellas Park, FL. Lou was born on November 13, 1942 in Bridgeport, CT to Louis and Ruth (Howard) Dermody. He married Nancy Cassabaum in 1962. He received his Bachelor’s Degree at Parsons College in Fairfield, IA. He received his Master of Social Work degree at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. He worked in Norwich, CT as a social worker at the Department of Children and Family Services for the State of Connecticut. He also worked as a Director of Social Services in several hospitals for many years in both Connecticut and Florida. After working for the hospitals he continued as a Social Worker for many years for several Home Health agencies throughout Pinellas County. He loved working with and helping people. He loved spending time with his family and taking family vacations with a movie camera in hand taking hours of home movies. He enjoyed playing golf and tried his hardest to make his family interested in golf. He loved jokes, and was always quick with a smile or story. He loved his family pets. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Dermody; his three daughters, Jessica (Bob) Ames of Connecticut, Mary (Brian) Wicenski of New Hampshire, and Brenda (Jeff) Hill of Florida; his seven grandchildren, Ronnie Simkanich, Doug Simkanich, Ashley (John) Hernandez, Evan Wicenski, Ian Wicenski, Raymond Majewski, and Joslyn Majewski; and one great-granddaughter, Leia Hernandez. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations to the American Lung Association or to the Alzheimer’s Association may be made in lieu of flowers.
