Linda Sue Corbett Goecker, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2021 due to Covid-19 despite being fully immunized. Prior to her Covid illness she had successfully met every obstacle that was in her path with boundless energy, including battling two different rounds of metastatic breast and lung cancer, giving her the nickname “little energizer bunny” but could not survive this devastating virus. She was 80 years old. She lived in St. Pete Beach, Florida for most of her adult life.
Linda was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio to Charles William Corbett and Eunice Muriel Reip on March 12, 1941. She moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1950. She graduated from Sarasota High School in 1959, and Stetson University in 1963. She continued her graduate studies at University of South Florida by completing her Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She was a devoted teacher for 33 years starting her career in Deland, Florida at Dempsey Bruster Elementary, then taught at Tuttle Elementary in Sarasota, Florida and finally finished her career at Gulfport Elementary in St.Petersburg, Florida where she was teacher of the year in 1993-94.
She was a very active member of Pass-a-Grille Beach Community Church serving as church council president, leader of Piecemakers, member of the bell choir and church choir.
Linda leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Robert Myrll Goecker and her children Robert Michael Goecker (Marian), of Pfafftown, North Carolina and Kari Lyn Hendry of Coral Springs, Florida. Additional family members include brothers, William David Corbett (Barbara) of Bradenton, Florida and Douglas Mitchell Corbett (Shelley) of Yulee, Florida; Grandchildren Abigail Meggan Bokorney (Jake), Robert Hayden Goecker, Kayli Lyn Hendry and Bria Daniel Hendry.
She was preceded in death by her youngest brother Stephen Andrew Corbett (Marcie).
In honor of the many years Linda dedicated to her church and work as a teacher, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pass-a-Grille Beach Community Church scholarship fund.
Our “valiant little bunny” will be truly missed but her faith will lead her home.
