Joe was born August 27, 1949 to Anthony and Vita Genna in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating high school, Joe went on to serve in the United States Army. He honorably served from 1967 to 1981 during the Vietnam War, where he was a search and rescue helicopter pilot. While he was still in the military, he served in the Individual Readiness Reserve where he obtained the rank of Major.
After his years of service in the military, he met Mary Helen Clark of Kenosha, WI at Fort Sheridan, IL. They were married in Vernon Hills, IL on September 19, 1981. They moved to St. Petersburg, FL where they resided for 41 years.
Joe owned and operated his own business and worked as a security officer for various organizations.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Mary; his brother Sandy and wife Doreen Genna of Jefferson, MA; brother Gary Genna of Knoxville, TN; sister, Toni Genna Long of Marlton, NJ; Uncle Albert and wife Mary Genna of Fayetteville, AR; Nephews, Gary Shedd, Anthony and wife Jessica Genna, Michael Genna, Matthew Long, Brian Long, Evan and wife Devan Rogers and Joseph Genna. Nieces, Chrissy Long and Cobi Genna; 4 great nieces and one great nephew.
Joe enjoyed taking cruises, riding motorcycles, sunny days at the beach and cooking pasta for the crowds. He and Mary enjoyed traveling all over America in their RV. He took great pride in practicing and teaching Tai-Chi to disabled veterans at Bay Pines Hospital during his years in St. Petersburg.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
No services at this time. The family will have a memorial service at the Bay Pines Cemetery at a later date.
