He was born on March 29, 1933 in Utica, New York to John and Sarah (Louderback) Ennis. A veteran of the US Navy, John spent the majority of his career as a highly respected news journalist working for multiple news agencies, including WTAR-TV in Norfolk, Virginia and WRVA Radio in Richmond, Virginia, where he spent over 20 years reporting the news.
His greatest passion in life was being outdoors. He moved to Florida after retirement and spent the last 30 years kayaking, camping, diving, and traveling to his beloved Culebra, Puerto Rico.
He is survived by his five children John Patrick Ennis, William David Ennis, Joseph Francis Ennis, Sean Daniel-Ennis, and Amanda Daniel-Ennis, his sister-in-law Annetta Ennis, and his two nieces Karen and Christine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers David Ennis and Robert Ennis.
John’s family would like to thank the caring and loving staff at The Canopy at Beacon Woods in Hudson, Florida who treated him with such kindness and love.
Per his last wishes, his ashes will be interred in a memorial reef off the coast of Key Biscayne, Florida.
