Jimmy Carlton Murray passed away on March 2, 2025, following an extended illness. Jimmy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on March 9, 1936, in Appling County, Georgia.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Anne Devito Murray; his son Mark Murray (wife Surachanee), to whom he was a devoted and nurturing father; his only grandson and the light of his life, Benjarong Murray (wife Whitney); and his dear great-grandsons, Tighe Murray and Koa Murray. Other survivors are his nephew James Anderson, and nieces Joan Anderson Roach and Joyce Anderson Williams.
Jimmy is predeceased by his parents, Windle Murray and Nancy Ellen Campbell Murray, his brother, Lester Hutto, and his sister, Lillian Hutto Anderson.
Jimmy was a man of character, especially known for his dedication to his family, his career, and his community…largely in the form of the many youth athletics teams he coached, as well as his involvement in officiating, and membership in civic organizations such as the Optimist Club. He positively impacted the lives of many, many persons over the years with his kindness and by being so generous in donating his time to coach and mentor children. He was also greatly respected in his multiple professions over the years. While being born and raised in a rural area as the son of sharecroppers, and despite having only a high school education, Jimmy was able to work his way up to positions of management over large corporate offices, with his final position being as the vice president in charge of operations of a regional corporation. For approximately the past 25 years, Jimmy enjoyed retirement in Pinellas County, Florida, while frequently taking trips around the country with Anne to visit friends and family, as well for sightseeing.
Jimmy’s legacy of love, integrity, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to us.
As he was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Jimmy’s remains will be interred at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Suncoast Hospice or to the National Kidney Foundation in his memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs of Addington Place of Palm Harbor, Arden Courts of Palm Harbor, Mease Countryside Hospital, and Suncoast Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days.
Rest in peace Jimmy. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
