James Paul Noyes of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, February 19, 2023, after a short illness at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie (Daisey), and four children, Christopher Noyes, Gretchen Neels, Jennifer Noyes and Amy Noyes-Ninotta, as well as his granddaughter Rebecca Noyes Elizondo, and great grandson, Vicente Elizondo. He is also survived by his three sisters, Pauline Foley, Dorothy Woughter and Elizabeth Griffin.
Born July 2, 1935, in Millinocket, Maine, Jim graduated from Stearns High School in 1952 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Springfield College. After 4 years of service in the U.S. Army, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Music from Northern Maine Conservatory.
In 1968, Jim and his family relocated to Pinellas County Florida from upstate New York, and he continued to perform music professionally. In the mid-1980s, He earned his Doctorate of Education from Sarasota University and began working in the substance abuse recovery arena. For over 30 years, Jim managed a private counseling practice and served as lead counselor for the Florida Professional’s Resource Network (PRN), an organization dedicated to helping impaired healthcare practitioners recover personally and professionally. It was his greatest joy to help those who struggled with addiction.
At his request, no services will be held. Donations may be made in his name to Suncoast Hospice of St. Petersburg, or Koala Group of Alcoholics Anonymous (via Pinellas County Intergroup www.aapinellas.org).
