David (Doc) Cooksey Rivera (1947-2024), is a talented artist, hardworking showman, veteran, Mason, and all-around generous, wise, and jovial man born on September 28, 1947, in San Diego, CA. David lived a vibrant full life and often said he did everything he ever wanted to do, including traveling across every state, many countries, and oceans.
He served as Worshipful Master of De Soto Lodge 105 F & AM in Riverview, Florida as well as a member of the York Rite Masonic Body.
He served as Executive Director and Curator of the Independent Showmen's Museum for the past 14 years. He wrote numerous published articles about the history of the outdoor amusement business in America.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, who raised him, and his sister Debbie. He is survived by his wife Debbie, daughters Marie and Virginia, grandchildren Mark, Sierra, Ty, Maddox, and Dallas, his great-grandchildren Alexis and Braxton, and his stepchildren Stacey and Sam.
He passed away peacefully in his home on December 14, 2024.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 1 pm at the International Independent Showman’s Museum at 6938 Riverview Drive, Riverview, Florida 33578.
