David Olds Harbert Born April 14, 1940 Cleveland, Ohio Passed May 28, 2017 Tampa, Florida David passed quietly at home with family at his side and his music in the air. David was raised in Shaker Heights Ohio and attended the University of Michigan graduating in 1963 with his MBA. He is predeceased by his father Carl J, Harbert and his mother Jane O. Harbert He is survived by the love of his life Carolyn , sons Matthew Olds Harbert(Lorraine), Andrew David Harbert(Rachel), grandchildren Annie C .Harbert, Alexander Olds Harbert, Madeline Harbert, and his brother Norman C. Harbert Cousins Steven Hough, Penny Sarvis(Mickey Williamson), Nancy Naismith(John), Richard Pillatt, Tom Cannon and Dale Ungerer. Many nieces and nephews and Glenn Hough(Jenny) & their son W.Remmington Hough. He was fortunate to work for several major corporations in his professional life at the executive level but especially loved the last 20 years of his professional career in the area of executive search. He made the last move of his life to Tampa, Fl in 1988 as President of Sweeney, Harbert & Mummert. During his life in Tampa, he became very involved in the community helping the Florida Aquarium come to fruition, and involved with the Patel Conservatory, Straz Perforning Arts Center, MOSI, The Children’s Home in Hillsborough county , the Board of Tampa Bay Ballet, and the passion of his life The Florida Orchestra where he served on the Board. He was also an active member of the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, N.C. He lived a life of teaching others that with success comes the responsibility to give back to the community. He did all his giving without expectation of recognition. He broke barriers for the disabled , not letting his own disability prevent from living a full life where family and community came first. The family wishes to thank all the health care professionals that shared their caring and knowledge to allow him his longevity. Contributions may be made to the Florida Orchestra, The University of Michigan Ross Business School, the Florida Aquarium or the charity of their choice.
