Daniel Grant Stack, born on May 6, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, peacefully passed away on March 1, 2024. A man of diverse experiences and talents, his journey unfolded across various places, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As a child, Daniel's early years were marked by a nomadic spirit, living in Ohio, Canada, Texas, Maine, and St. Petersburg, Florida. He embarked on his educational journey at St. Jude Catholic School and later attended Bishop Barry, now known as St. Petersburg Catholic High School. Following his graduation, Daniel set out for New York City, where he quickly found employment in a Wall Street bank and established his first home in Queens, sharing it with young men from Germany, Sweden, and Israel.
Returning to his roots, Daniel pursued a passion for art at the University of South Florida, where he also worked part-time at Graphicstudio, a printmaking studio on campus. His time there ignited a profound enthusiasm for the arts. Post-graduation, he ventured back to New York, founding Copper Plate Editions, a business dedicated to producing prints for artists. His collaboration with renowned artist James Rosenquist spanned many years, encompassing both New York and Aripeka, Florida.
Daniel's artistic expression found a unique form in the creation of beautiful paintings, often depicting tropical plants juxtaposed with classical buildings. His artistic legacy continued to flourish, even as life presented him with challenges. His Aripeka home, unfortunately, fell victim to flooding during the No Name Storm. Undeterred, Daniel transitioned into construction projects, discovering an innate talent as a contractor. Earning licenses as a contractor, plumber, and electrician, he later became a plans examiner for Pasco County and later for the city of St. Petersburg, showcasing exceptional skill in his work.
A man of diverse relationships, Daniel experienced the ebb and flow of two marriages, first to Cheryl Benefiel and later to Leslie Neumann. Despite life's twists, he remained connected to his family. Daniel is survived by his brother, Michael, and is fondly remembered alongside his late sister, Barbara, who passed on March 1, 2021. His presence is cherished by nieces and nephews, Nicole, Joel, Brian, Andrew, and Ivania, as well as five grandnieces and nephews.
In addition to family, Daniel leaves behind a circle of friends who were touched by his warmth and spirit. Larry of Tampa, Harry, Luke, and Peter of St. Petersburg, Erica of Miami, and Lisa of Kassel, Germany, will forever hold his memory close.
As we bid farewell to Daniel Grant Stack, let us remember him not only for his artistic contributions but also for his resilience, talents, and the enduring connections he forged with family and friends. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty he brought to the canvas of life.
