Charles A. Conley died peacefully on 5/14/2023. He was born in Greenup County, Kentucky but lived most of his younger years in Portsmouth, OH where he attended high school. After high school graduation in 1954, he was given the opportunity to attend the United States Naval Academy and graduated as an officer in 1958. He served as a First Lieutenant and Captain in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962. He was a Ground Electronics Officer with the 565th Strategic Missile Squadron (ICBM-Atlas) (SAC) at the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
After leaving the military, he studied at the University of Florida in a graduate engineering program and graduated from the University of Maryland with an MBA. He worked at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab on missile technology, and he had a 30+ year career with IBM Corporation and the IBM Information Network as a Systems Engineer and Marketing Representative of large computer systems and networks for hospitals, colleges and universities.
He is predeceased by his mother, Edna Pearl and his father, Charles Albert Conley, his brother, Jack Conley, and his first wife, Winnifred Smith. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his daughter Jennifer Schaub and his grandsons, Dylan and Luke Schaub. He lived in Silver Spring, MD and later retired to St. Petersburg, FL.
Charlie loved all kinds of music, especially bluegrass. He had a great sense of humor and was cracking jokes just days before he passed. He loved to travel and enjoyed bike trips in Europe, beaches in the Caribbean, and introducing his grandsons to special places and national parks in the states. Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
Military Honors and interment will take place at Bay Pines National
Cemetery in St. Petersburg on June 9 at 10:00 AM followed by a remembrance luncheon at Pasadena Yacht and Country Club in Gulfport, FL.
