Carlene “Bay” W. Famularo was born on April 23, 1932, in Thomaston, Alabama. She was the fourth child born to the late Mr. Floyd Williams and Ms. Corine Smith. Carlene passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Upon graduating high school in Thomaston, Alabama, Carlene, affectionately known as “Bay” decided to relocate to Asbury Park, New Jersey, where she built a life filled with love, laughter and resilience. She met and married the love of her life, John Famularo, and to that union, two sons were born, James Famularo and Nicholas Famularo. Bay was a devoted wife and a very loving, caring and supportive mother who put her family first. Bay raised her two sons with strength and sacrifice, ensuring they had everything they needed. She was the pillar of her family, and her love was like a warm embrace that enveloped her sons, making them feel safe, cherished, loved and capable of anything with the help of her sister, Ethel James.
For over 35 years, Bay worked as a Licensed Home Health Aide, serving others with compassion and a very caring spirit. This was truly Bay’s calling because she loved helping others. Providing care and assistance for the sick and disabled can be one of the world’s noblest professions and she handled it with dignity and pride. Bay never encountered a stranger. Her door was always open and swung on welcoming hinges. If you needed a meal, she had one for you especially her infamous Cornish Hens, treasured by all who were fortunate enough to have indulged, if you needed a listening ear and advice, she was there and most of all if you needed love, her love extended beyond her family. Bay enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to dance and could dance, but most of all, she loved and knew the Lord for herself. Bay was a member of Bethel AME Church in Asbury Park, NJ.
Bay resided in Asbury Park, NJ for 72 years and then decided to relocate to Tampa, FL to live with her son, Nicholas and Daughter-in-Love, Tiwana. Nicholas and Tiwana have been Bay caregivers since she made that transition from the Garden State of New Jersey to the Sunshine State of Florida. When it came to the care of Bay, Nicholas, Tiwana and their entire family possessed empathy, patience and provided compassionate care. Nicholas truly loved and cared for his mother deeply and Tiwana was right there by his side. Bay would tell anyone she came into contact with whether it was doctors, nurses, and CNAs, that my son and daughter-in-law take very good care of me.
One of her greatest pastimes was horse racing, especially at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. Bay also traveled to race tracks across America. She developed a deep passion for horses from a young age. As years went by, she found joy in coin collecting, which was a hobby she pursued despite the laughter of her family.
Bay was predeceased by her husband, John Famularo, her son, James Famularo, her siblings, James Williams, Ethel Williams-James, and Floyd Williams. Her Sister-in-Law, Ms. Estelle Williams, her Brother-in-Law, Mr. Rayfield James and Brother-in-Law, Ulyss Pearl.
Bay is survived by her son, Nicholas and Daughter-in-Law Tiwana Famularo, Tampa, FL, who were her caregivers; Daughter-in-Law, Shonna Famularo, Asbury Park, NJ; 4 Grandchildren, Teona Famularo (Kevin), Atlanta, GA; Ashley Jenkins (Chiron), Tampa, FL; Nicholas Famularo, Asbury Park, NJ and Joseph Famularo, New York, NY; 3 Great Grandchildren, James and Liah Famularo, Asbury Park, NJ and Alijah Mahki Jenkins, Tampa, FL; Sister, Thelma “Tee” Williams-Pearl, Aldie, VA; Sister-in-Law, Virginia Williams, Huntersville, NC. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. Family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Carlene “Bay” W. Famularo was truly a gift from God and her spirit will live on in her family and in all who were blessed to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy and devotion that will never be forgotten.
