Brendan was born March 30, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY to Robert and Louise (Slattery) Cassidy. Following his high school graduation, Brendan served in the United States Navy as a ship's radarman. Brendan loved Florida and settled there upon completion of his military service. Brendan married Sandra Girard on October 7, 1967 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, St. Pete Beach, FL. They were married nearly 55 years with her passing in 2022. The couple had two daughters to complete their family. Brendan received his Bachelor of Political Science from the University of South Florida. Brendan spent the majority of his career in management including District Manager for Burger King and District Manager for the Florida Lottery. Brendan loved his big Irish family with 6 brothers and sisters and all their children. He was known as the fun uncle who never missed an opportunity to gather for laughter, story telling, and debating the issues of the day. His outgoing nature spilled into every aspect of life. No matter where he went, Brendan made a new friend and went out of his way to show others how special they are. Brendan enjoyed things related to water especially sailing, white water rafting, and fishing. Brendan also considered his annual trips with Sandra to Gatlinburg, TN a highlight of his life. Brendan's dogs and his work with St. Raphael's Catholic Church brought him joy every day.
Brendan is survived by his sister Muriel Cassidy, daughters Theresa Cassidy and Misty Macedo and husband David Macedo, grandchildren Kayleigh Power and husband Alex Power, Phillip Dvorak, Daniel Dvorak, Joshua Dvorak, and Wyatt Macedo, and great grandchildren Benjamin, Anastasia, and Damien Power.
The funeral Mass for Brendan will be held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, St. Petersburg, FL on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Internment of his ashes will take place at the Bay Pines VA Cemetery on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 8:45 a.m.
Brendan will always be remembered as the Greeter who said to those entering the church "Welcome Home!" and whimsically giving lollipops to the children after Mass. A heartfelt thank you to the parishioners of St. Raphael's for celebrating Brendan's passing in such a special way.
