Bill M Puckett, 86, passed away at his home on December 22, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 12, 1936 in St. Petersburg, FL, Bill’s early education and apprenticeships ultimately led him to earning the status of Master Plumber (the youngest in the county) and electrician, his first job as a teen was at his brother’s motorcycle shop (Puckett Motors, St. Pete and Orlando) where he developed a lifelong passion for riding and forged his approach to life at full throttle.
He started two successful businesses, the first in plumbing and the second was Bill Puckett’s Store Fixtures. The latter allowed him to do what he loved, buy, sell, trade, design and build or fabricate things. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed traveling across the country with his RV and motorcycle, visiting his family roots in Tennessee and going to family reunions, working on his many properties and dancing with Lee.
He is survived by his life partner, Nancy “Lee” Pitney; son, Bret R Puckett; daughter, Casey Brook McPhee, son-in-law Lee McPhee and grandson, Ian McPhee; many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving lifelong friends. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Puckett, son Brad R Puckett, his parents JD and Julia Puckett, two brothers, Lewis and John “Ford” Puckett, and three sisters, Carmen Smotherman, twins Martha Cosby and Mary Holt. Since Bill and Lee were a couple for over 26 years, her entire family considered Bill part of their family, most especially Lee’s mother, Faye Queck, daughter, Tracy Mate and granddaughter, Genna Mate.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place in the near future, where stories can be told and love can be exchanged.
If you wish to make a donation, Bill’s charities are the Greater Largo Library Foundation and Empath Suncoast Hospice.
