November 14, 1936 – November 26, 2018
August William Picariello Jr. died on November 26, 2018, two weeks after his 82nd birthday in Tarpon Springs, Florida. August was born to August William Picariello Sr. and Elizabeth Planz in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1936. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 and proudly served his country for 3 years. On August 22, 1959 he married Lillian Marie Basile of Fairview, New Jersey.
August was a long-time resident of both Fairview and Ramsey, New Jersey before settling in Tarpon Springs, Florida with his beloved wife of 59 years, Lillian. He is survived by his two children, Lisa Picariello Crawford and Todd Picariello, son-in-law Kenneth Crawford, his three Grandchildren Alexie, TC and Travis Picariello and brothers Richard, Dennis and Ronald Picariello. Also survived by his brother in law, Joseph Bella and his children Kimberly Deer and Scott Bella.
“Augie” was a member of the Fairview Board of Education, retired from many years at UPS, loved the Yankees, Green Bay Packers, playing softball and talking about football for hours.
One of his fondest memories is of the “3rd Street Gang” at his father-in-law Clem’s Garage, playing horseshoes, hanging at Clem’s hardware store in Fairview and playing on various softball leagues. He loved his martinis, but only if they were Bombay Sapphire, NO vermouth with a lemon twist.
The greatest loves of his life were his wife and family. He also loved to travel the world and instilled the love of travel to both his children.
August spent most of his time with his wife Lillian helping to raise their three grandchildren which they devoted much of their lives too. Better known to them as Pop, Father Christmas and Frank Sinatra’s cousin, his stories and the memories will live on and on. Anchors Aweigh and thank you for your service.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, December 15 at Veterans Memorial Gazebo at 250 Shore Dr. E., Oldsmar, FL 34677.
