Robert (Bob) Swails passed on to his heavenly home June 16, 2026 with his wife and family at his side. Bob was blessed with 80 years and 1 month of life here. Bob was born the middle son of three brothers in Geneva, Nebraska to Elwood (Woody) Swails and Elvina Johnson Swails on May 11, 1946. Bob graduated from Geneva High School in 1964 and married his high school sweetheart Lois Gipson in 1965. Together they raised their two amazing children, Darcy and Daryn. Bob and Lois enjoyed 25 years of marriage before Lois passed away. In 1992 Bob married Connie Garcia and became stepfather to her girls, Kimberly and Misty. Bob and Connie took great pride in all of their children – that they became close and supportive of one another. Together they were blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In Bob’s early marriage the family enjoyed many camping trips, one of the most interesting camping on an island in Montana where an abundance of snakes cut the trip short! Many of Bob’s fondest memories were of time spent with his family and in-laws at Lovewell Lake. In Bob’s later years he and Connie enjoyed traveling to many states by several means - land, air and sea. Bob went to work for Lincoln Telephone at an early age and had a 38 year career in the industry. He both started and ended his Lincoln Telephone career in York, Nebraska though he worked 25 of those years in the Hastings office. He rose to the position of Assistant Manager before taking an early retirement after the company was sold. He made many good friends through work and far too many memories to count. Bob drove a school bus for York Public Schools for five years, being not quite ready for full retirement. Bob and Connie later moved to Lincoln and found the retirement years to be an amazingly fun slice of life, with wonderful neighbors and friends. Together they attended New Covenant Community Church of Lincoln. Bob served in the United States Army 1967-1969. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded many medals and awards, including the Army Commendation Medal. Left to remember and continue to love him are daughter Darcy (Darcy) Moul, son Daryn (Kim) Swails, stepdaughter Kimberly (Daryn) Swails, stepdaughter Misty (Matt) Krieser, grandchildren Lauren Moul Valasek (Tylor), Benson Moul (Jaci), Stevie Swails Jelden (Chase), Max Swails, Joey Swails, Addison Krieser, Charlie Krieser, great grandchildren Tyson Valasek, Kennedy Valasek, Quinn Valasek, Maysen Valasek, CoraLouise Jelden, Primrose Jelden, Parks Jelden, bothers Eldon Swails of Long Beach, California, Jim Swails (Linda) of Fort Collins, Colorado, cousin John Cowart (Mickey) and many dear friends and neighbors.
A service for Bob will be held Tuesday, June 30th, at 10:30 am at New Covenant Community Church located at 6000 S. 84th St. in Lincoln. All are welcome to attend a luncheon directly after, also at the church. Bob’s ashes will be interred at the National Cemetery in Omaha located at 14250 Schram Road at 2:30 pm that afternoon. The family requests any memorials be made to Tunnels to Towers or any other worthy organization that provides relief to the families of our nation’s fallen and injured heroes.
