Raymond Lee Caspers, Sr. passed away in his sleep on December 31, 2024, at his home southwest of Auburn, NE. Raymond was the first of five children born to Albert and Blanche (Gerdes) Caspers. He was raised on the family farm where he learned the value of hard work.
He was baptized at St. John (Stone) Church in May 1933 and confirmed in March 1947. In May 1946, he graduated from 8th grade in a one-room school (#41) and from Bratton Union High School in May 1955.
Raymond married Jean Strickland on October 5, 1955, at St. Johns (Stone) Church. They made their home in Omaha, NE, where they were blessed with three children: Raymond Lee Jr., Diane, and Jeffrey.
Raymond began working for Allied Chemical in La Platte, NE in 1955. The company was bought twice (Arcadian then PCS Nitrogen) during his 46 years there. He was President of the Metal Trade Council for 38 years there. Due to his excellent negotiation skills, they never went on strike. He often worked double shifts. He retired in 2000 and after he retired he began working on Nuclear Power Plant shutdowns from 2001-2011. He worked in plants in NE, KS, MO, IL, VA, and MI. While working in the shutdowns he met Lillian Scoggins. With the help of his son Raymond Lee, Jr and Lill’s son Terry (Lynn) they remodeled the farmhouse he grew up in.
During their years together, they enjoyed going to flea markets, garage sales, and especially auctions. Many auctioneers knew him by name. He bought the family farm in the 1970s and received the Heritage 150 Years Family Farm Award in August 2024. He worked on the farm as a young boy until a few years ago.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, his dear friend Lill, his sister Doris, and her husband Keith Coatney of Las Vegas, NV, brother-in-law John Kelly (Ardel Eiben) of Atlantic, IA, and brother-in-law Dwight Hahn of Sioux Falls, SD.
He is survived by: sons Raymond Lee Caspers, Jr (Julie Schwery) in Omaha, and Jeffrey in Humboldt, NE; Daughter Diane Price (Rob Garza) in Humboldt, NE; Sisters Betty Hahn of Sioux Falls, SD, Carole (Dennis) Bartels of Anderson, CA, and Barbara Grace of Elgin, TX; sister-in-law Ruth Kelly Eiben of Atlantic, IA, brother-in-law David Strickland of Anita, IA; Grandchildren David (Liz) Caspers of Charlotte NC, Kristine (Ricky) Welchert of Omaha, NE, Dwaine Jr, Nicole, and Brandon Price, of Omaha, NE, Ashley Caspers of Auburn, NE; Step Grandchildren Amber Comstock of Pensacola, FL, Justin (Sara) Moran of Lincoln, NE, Tony Moran of Omaha, NE. He also had thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
