Patricia Mary James Closson, born on March 17, 1940, in Lansing, Michigan, lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication to helping others. She was the sixth of eight children born to Christine and Howard James. Her early years involved moving several times before her family settled in Haslett, Michigan, where she graduated from high school.
Patricia pursued her passion for caring for others by attending Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, and nursing school in Independence, Missouri. In 1962, she married James Byron Closson immediately after his commission into the Air Force. Together, they embarked on a life of travel and service.
During the Vietnam War, while her husband was on active duty and stationed far from family, Patricia raised their two children, Christine Marie (1964) and James Robert (1966), largely on her own for the first few years. The family moved frequently, experiencing life in Florida, California, Okinawa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Patricia dedicated over 30 years to her career as a registered nurse, working in various specialties including oncology, pediatrics, psychiatric care, and hospice care. After retirement, she became a certified Life Coach, continuing to support and guide others.
A lover of animals, Patricia always had a furry companion, whether a dog or cat. She also had a passion for travel, exploring extensively within the US and around the world.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Christine and Howard; siblings Marion (Ken), Marlon (Gloria), Marilyn Jean (Mitch), Maurice John (Aida); husband James Byron, and son James Robert.
She is survived by her siblings Margaret (Paul), Sharon (Dan), and Melinda (Gene); daughter Christine (Steven); grandchildren Taylor (Allison), Austin (Maria), Garrett (Hanna), Dylan (Kalen); great-grandchildren Lucas, William, Stella, Wesley, Oliver, and Cameron, and multiple beloved friends and family members.
Patricia will be remembered for her unwavering love, her dedication to her family and career, and her adventurous spirit. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
