Michelle was born on November 30, 1964, in Iowa City, Iowa. After growing up in Iowa, she made Omaha her home for more than 30 years and built a life centered around the people she loved and cared for.
Caring for others came naturally to Michelle. In 1993, she achieved one of her proudest accomplishments when she graduated from nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. For Michelle, nursing was more than a career. She genuinely found happiness in helping people and being there for them when they needed someone most.
Her greatest joy, however, came from being Grandma to Kamron, Ryder, Leo and Piper. Michelle delighted in giving her grandchildren the world whenever she could, and saying “no” was rarely part of Grandma’s vocabulary. She was especially thrilled when she learned her first granddaughter was on the way. The news promptly inspired a dress-shopping spree to ensure that little girl would be among the best dressed in town.
Michelle embraced the things she loved with enthusiasm. She enjoyed country music and looked forward to seeing Celtic Woman during the Christmas season. She was also a devoted BTS fan, collecting everything from CDs and posters to bobbleheads and memorabilia. Her affection for Temu and QVC meant online shopping was practically a hobby of its own.
She appreciated good food just as much. Chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter brownies, hummus and buffalo chicken dip were favorites, while keeping Tostitos Scoops in the kitchen was simply understood. She enjoyed settling in with shows like Chicago P.D., Law & Order: SVU and Yellowstone, and she always had a special love for peonies.
Michelle’s Christian faith was an important part of her life and remained a source of meaning throughout the years.
She is survived by her daughters, Bobbie Lawson and Mackenzie Johnson (Chance); her grandchildren, Kamron, Ryder, Leo and Piper; her father, Bob Lawson; her siblings, Dean Lawson, Dennis Lawson and Melissa Cox; and her former partner, Douglas Lynn Johnson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Lawson and her siblings, Doug and Daniel Lawson.
To her children and grandchildren, Michelle was their anchor and their rock. She cared deeply, gave generously and made her family the center of her world. They remained by her side through the end, surrounding her with the same love and care she had spent a lifetime giving to others.
Her presence in their home and in their lives cannot be replaced, but the love she gave so freely will remain part of her family for generations to come.
