
Joe Boyce Johnson was born in Russellville, Kentucky, the youngest son of Charles Johnson and Christina Jennings Johnson on January 6, 1949. On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Joe was called home to rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord. Joe was a graduate of Russellville High School and played sports and was a member of the high school band. He enlisted in the United States Navy from 1967 – 1970, including service in Vietnam. He was awarded with the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze service medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal.
Joe knew no stranger and enjoyed speaking with everyone. People loved his humor and listening to his views on a variety of topics. He loved playing the piano and singing. Joe gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of A.M.E. Zion church.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his siblings Henry, Pete, Charlene “Shelly”, Maxine Long, Patrica Johnson-Ashe, and nephew Winford “Bo” Taylor.
To cherish the memory of Joe, he leaves his children, Shawn (Carla) Stovall, Joyce (Jan) Smith, Joe Jr. (Zarita) Johnson, grandchildren, Jamia (Alex) Burt, Cameron, Adora, Isiah, Isabella, Jan Jr., and Aiden. Great grandchildren, Alex Jr., Landen, Leia, Laikyn. His sister, Glenda Paige, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
