Dr. Michelle Camicia was a transformational leader in rehabilitation nursing, pioneering researcher, devoted mentor, loving mother, and a deeply cherished friend. She passed away peacefully in her home on August 9, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph; two children, Maximus and Makenna; two stepchildren, Brittany and Kristen; father, Harold; stepmother, Dodie; two siblings, Steven and Susan; and grandchildren, Lilly, Frankie, and Chloe. Michelle brought radiant warmth, fierce loyalty, and boundless generosity to every role she held, whether shaping national healthcare policy or offering a moment of deep, soulful comfort to someone in need of her kindness. Beyond her professional brilliance, Michelle was a vibrant spirit who found joy in life’s simple and profound pleasures. She was an outdoor enthusiast who sought peace in nature, a joyful traveler with an insatiable curiosity for the world, and a devoted animal lover, especially to her beloved kitties and cherished dog Buddy, who were constant companions and brought her endless joy.
Michelle was always seeking to help those whom she loved. Whether family or friend, she was there for us all when we needed her most. Until her last moments, she and Joseph, a match truly made in heaven, shared a loving bond that was undeniably special. Michelle was the most supportive and influential mother her children could have ever asked for. Her unwavering love, wisdom, and strength were the foundation of their lives. Her legacy lives on not only in the lives she transformed through her groundbreaking work—such as the globally adopted PATH tool—but also in the hearts of her family, her friends, her colleagues, and all who were blessed to know and love her. Michelle’s presence filled her surroundings with light, joy, and strength, no matter the environment. She will be missed but never forgotten, leaving an extraordinary legacy behind.
