Mike grew up throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, moving often for his father’s work. He graduated from Hall High School in Little Rock, AR and attended college for a short time at Little Rock University. Later going back to school and finishing his medical education at The Heart Institute in Houston, TX.
He joined the Marines in 1965 and served 6 yrs. Knowing he still had the need to serve the country he loved, he joined the Air Force Reserves in 1977. Mike served 14 years before going on inactive reserves and officially retiring in 2006 from the 65th Aeromed Evac, Travis AFB CA. While in service, he was called up to Active Duty (state-side) for the Marines at the end of the Vietnam War and for the Airforce during Operation Iraqi Freedom and the first Gulf War. In all, Mike had 34yrs 11 months combined years of service to this country.
In the private sector, Mike wore many different hats. Attending the Police Academy in Tulsa, OK and becoming a patrol officer in both Tulsa and Bixby, OK. He worked for a year in Washington D.C. for the FBI- Identification Department before following his love of medicine, first as a Raspatory Therapist and later as a Perfusionist running the heart/lung pump in open heart surgeries. After retiring from the medical field, Mike found his calling through his love of GOD in ministry and mission work. Rendering aid to the people of Fiji.
Anyone that knew Mike, knew of his love of guns, never going far without one strapped to his hip. He was proud of his travels and all the places he was blessed to go. He loved to fly, having his pilot license for both helicopters and small aircraft. He enjoyed going to hot-rod shows with his beloved T-Bucket, but his favorite was riding his Harley anytime and anywhere. GOD, Family and Country were his three most important things.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lova Skinner, his father, William Sorrells, his step-father, George Skinner, his step-mother, Wynona Sorrells, and his brother, Clifford Sorrells.
He is survived by his wife, Rama Sue Allen, his daughter, Sandra Sorrells and husband Dewayne Morris, his sons, Scott Sorrells and wife Heather, and Michael Sorrells and wife Caitlyn, his grandson’s Colten Sorrells and Wyatt Morris, his granddaughters, Mariah and Madalyn Sorrells, his step-sisters, Peggy Ratcliff and Susan Bliss, his step-brothers, Willard Edge and David Edge and wife Patty, and numerous nieces and nephews along with many close friends.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 9th, 2019 at 11 o’clock AM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
