Bill was born on September 26, 1946 to Ray and Mildred Measures on their 13th wedding anniversary in the small farm town of El Centro, California. After graduating from Central Union High School in 1964, Bill began pursuing a degree in accounting at Imperial Valley College. While studying for his AA degree, he worked for Central Auto Parts store and Prater Lincoln and Mercury in El Centro.
Before Bill was able to finish his bachelor’s degree, he was drafted into the Army on May 14, 1968. He was sent to Vietnam in October of 1968 to serve with the 25th Infantry Division in the area known as the Iron Triangle. He obtained the rank of Sp 5 in only 10 months from the date he entered the service. Bill was an exceptional soldier and besides being awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal he was award the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service while serving in Vietnam.
Once out of the service, Bill and his wife, Susie Westmorland, moved to Idaho where Bill worked for her father on his cattle ranch while going to school. He received his degree from Boise State College on August 17, 1973. Together they had two wonderful boys, Jason and Andy.
Bill married Kay (Katy) Hahlbeck in 1977. Katy had two beautiful daughters, Shawn and Kristy, who Bill treated as his own throughout his and their lives. Bill moved to Arlington, TX in 1980 with Katy and the kids when he accepted a job with Best Metals.
Bill married Nancy Seeley in 2003 and the marriage ended in 2022.
Prior to going into business for himself as Measures Consulting Group, Bill worked for Boral Bricks, Lomas Management Inc., Dallas Independent School District and Matcor Unlimited Inc., all in the Dallas area. As a consultant, he worked on projects with very diverse groups. One he was most proud of was starting up the Major Broadcasting Corporation with Marlon Jackson, Evander Holyfield, Cecil Fielder and Alvin James. Bill loved working with these men and had many stories to tell about their down to earth personalities and their stellar work ethic.
Bill loved to hunt, cook, garden, remodel homes and take things apart. One Christmas he and his brother received a go kart. Without his brother’s knowledge, Bill decided to rebuild it into a racing go kart. What a surprise it was when his brother took off for the first time after the upgrade. It was much faster and better than the original by far! Bill also enjoyed growing the peppers he used to make his delicious, and very much loved by all, Poblano Pepper Cream Soup.
Bill is survived by his four children: Jason Measures (Cathy), William Andrew (Andy) Measures (Daina), Shawn Walters, Kristy Reopelle (Steve), sisters: Charlene Caudill, Linda Morasca; brother: Richard Measures (Cathi); ten grandchildren: Matthew Measures, Caleb Measures, Camdon Nickerson, Carter Nickerson, Macayla Measures, Christian Measures, Shadedyn Measures, Leandra Measures, Kiley Reopelle, Chandler Walters (Brittany); three great -grandchildren: Cameron Pierce Walters, Westley Measures, Persephone Measures; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
As Bill walked through the gates of heaven, the lord embraced him, looked into his eyes and said, “I had you always and I am pleased with you...Welcome home soldier.”
