With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William A. Fideli on February 7, 2025 at the age of 82. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bill was the foundation of our family – always offering unwavering support, wisdom, and love.
Born in Niagara Falls, New York, Bill was the son of the late Maria Fideli and the late William Fideli, Sr. He was blessed with a sharp mind and a determined spirit, earning a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, followed by a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park. He was pursuing a Doctorate in Astrophysics before shifting his focus in what became his most cherished role: Fatherhood.
Bill dedicated 35 years of service to the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), where he served as the Director of Programming and Planning for Naval Intelligence and later as the Director of Resources. Even after retiring, his version of “take it easy” meant continuing to make an impact – working for Booz-Allen & Hamilton, where his expertise played a key role in securing full intelligence community membership for the U.S. Coast Guard Intelligence Program.
Beyond his distinguished career, Bill was a passionate family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Bernadette Kemps Fideli, and his sister Pamela Hawes (Wendell). He was a dedicated father to Kristina (Elliott), Karen (Lee), and Bill (Elizabeth), and an incredibly proud grandfather to Amanda, Sophia, Ellen, Kyle, Claire, Ryan, Sean, Mary, and William. Whether helping with math and science homework, playing with his children, or passionately supporting high school sports, Bill was always present. As President of the High School Athletic Boosters, he spearheaded efforts to install lights on the football field and improve the baseball facilities,
Bill’s greatest joys in life were his family, his work, his alma mater Notre Dame, and his beloved sports teams – the New York Yankees, Washington Commanders, and Buffalo Bills. Always an engineer, he even designed and built a long-range AM radio antenna to listen to Notre Dame and Yankee games. He lived life to the fullest and loved deeply, leaving an unforgettable impact on those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 5, 2025 at the Hotel Heron, Alexandria, Virginia, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Bill’s remarkable memory.
He is deeply missed, but will forever be remembered
