Stephen Neal Henderson died peacefully and surrounded by loved ones in his Whitesboro home, on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a little over a year ago, he fought bravely until his last breath. Stephen was born on February 18, 1951 to parents Neal and Wanda Henderson in Dumas, TX. He graduated from Sunray High School in 1969 and attended college at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He went on to pursue his ambition of farming and ranching in Sunray, TX for many years before moving his family to Pottsboro, TX in 1986. In his spare time, Stephen could be found volunteering as a firefighter with the Preston Fire Department, scuba diving, or learning more about his family’s deep Pottsboro history. He later met his beloved wife Peggy, moved to Amarillo, TX, and married in 2010. While there, he owned and operated Superior Solar Shades and Ironclad Doors. In 2016, Stephen and Peggy relocated to Whitesboro, TX to live out his dream of having a home in the country. Together, they enjoyed exploring estate sales and making the next big find. It was here that he was also able to further carry out his true passion; taking care of the land and animals they owned. Hardworking, reliable, and jack-of-all-trades are just a few words often used to describe Stephen. Anyone who knew him would agree, he was a real salt of the earth kind of man. He had a soft-spoken strength about him and was always a gentleman. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and could often be heard affectionately going-on about his loved ones’ accomplishments. Stephen is survived by his wife, Peggy White Henderson; son Michael Chad Henderson and wife, Cicelyann of Dallas, Tx; Daughter Marcy Aranson and husband, Robert of Sherman, TX; daughter Sydni Doyle and husband, Billy of Sherman, TX; daughter Megan White of Amarillo, TX; his mother Wanda Nunley Henderson of Denison, TX; grandchildren Drew, Lena, Grayson; and sister Claudia Click and husband, Ray of Pottsboro, TX. Stephen was preceded in death by his father Neal Roy Henderson. Memorial services will take place on Saturday, November 18 at 11am at Bones Chapel 2005 Roland Rd. Whitesboro, Tx. In lieu of flowers, the bereaved ask that a charitable donation be made in Stephen Neal Henderson’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
