She was born on August 29, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts. She met her husband, Terry Berkheimer, in Norfolk, VA in late 1966 and they were married on May 19, 1967. As a Navy wife, Sheila lived in Jacksonville FL, Norfolk VA, and eventually San Diego CA. She never complained about uprooting and moving to a new city and was quick to make friends with other military wives. After Terry discharged from the Navy in 1973, the family moved to Lakeside CA where the kids completed their education. Sheila ran an in-home daycare for years, taking care of many Lakeside children. Once her daycare kids were grown, Sheila accepted a position at Tierra del Sol Middle School and provided before-school and lunch supervision. Whenever she was out and about in Lakeside, a teenager would see her, offer a hug, and call her Grandma. These teenagers are now young adults and still affectionately referred to her as Grandma. She reveled in this. Sheila moved to Texas with her daughter Tina in 2021 so that Tina could care for her.
Sheila’s faith in God was tremendous and she had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed attending Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon and Journey Community Church in La Mesa before moving to Texas.
Sheila is survived by her daughter Tina (T.J.) Ziebell, son John (Lorissa) Berkheimer, granddaughter Stephanie (Jeff) Dandos, granddaughter Lyndsay (Nick) Polovitz, granddaughter Jackie Stanton, and granddaughter Mackenzie Berkheimer. She is also survived by two step-great grandsons (Ayden and Elijah) and two great-granddaughters (Summer and Sierra).
Sheila is preceded in death by her husband Terry, son (James “Jimmy”), and daughter (Jeanne “Rene”) and joins them in eternity.
