Bob was born in Leominster, Massachusetts on July 23rd, 1936 to Herbert and Alice May.
He started his military career with the Massachusetts National Guard and then went into the US Navy. He was assigned to the USS Vance, USS Puget Sound and finally the USS Skylark. He served proudly in the Vietnam War and retired on November 11th, 1976. Following his retirement, he started a career at the U.S. Post Office where he served for 25 years before retiring.
He is preceded in death by his son, Larry May and step daughter, Pamela Clevenger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nyla May, granddaughters, Peggy Fimbres (Ralph Fimbres) of Ukiah, CA and Jennifer Miller (Mike Miller) of Abilene, TX as well as great grandchildren: Kirstie Fimbres, Megan Patterson (Logan Patterson), and Jacob Miller. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his ability to fix anything. He was always ready for a political argument and was a proud Republican. Forever in our hearts and memories.
Services will be held at Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery on August 26th at 1000. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization Bob felt strongly about.
