ROBERT ‘BOB’ NOLEN ARMSTRONG, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin passed into the arms of God on Thursday, October 5, 2017 after several years of mixed dementia and bone cancer. He was born in Colombia, MO on August 1, 1943. He graduated from the air force base high school in Zaragoza, Spain and received his Bachelor of Science at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK in 1966. He worked for Foley’s Department Stores, Ampex (recording and sound equipment),, and served as a personal banker for almost 30 years at Friendly National Bank in Oklahoma City, OK. He and his wife, Kay, moved to Dallas, TX in 2003 where he was self-employed as an Energy Analyst. He is preceded in death by parents Nolen Lee Armstrong, Sr. and Margret Rose Lacy Patee; step-father George Patee II; half-brother Nolen Armstrong, Jr.; sister Kathy Deen; step-sisters, Carole Armstrong Owens and Sue Patee Wyckoff; and two grandchildren, Meg Armstrong and Thomas McIntosh, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kay Burnett Armstrong; daughter Teri Armstrong McCarthy (Mike); son Winfield Tyree Armstrong (Kellie); step-daughter Cathy Berly McIntosh (Thomas); brother George Patee III; step-sisters, Margaret Armstrong Hofer and Ann Patee Karmosky; nieces and nephews; and seven grandchildren, Christiana McIntosh, Colin McCarthy, Olivia McIntosh, Brenden McCarthy, Clarissa McIntosh, Xander Armstrong, and Kenneth McIntosh. Bob was a devoted, loving, and caring child of God joyously singing in his church choirs for over 40 years and giving devoted volunteer service with the homeless, domestic mediation, youth programs, community safety programs, at-risk schools, community theatre, arts festivals, and the Dallas Arboretum. He was the ultimate optimist of life and his fellow man. Bob never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone, stopping to assist stranded motorists on numerous occasions. He loved to dance and sing and delighted in all the arts. His joy of life, unique sense of humor, and curiosity about all aspects of God’s people and His world brought smiles and laughter to all those close to him and newly-met. He was a man of compassion, patience, and an understanding of the importance of compromise. The family is extremely grateful to the staff at Hurst Plaza Nursing & Rehab Center for all their very loving and personal care of Bob and family members during his last two years of life. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2:30 pm at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church in Dallas. The family requests that contributions in his memory be made to Oak Lawn UMC or to American Association of Community Theatre’s Endowment Fund for Festivals.
