He enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17, leading a successful 20 year career that allowed him to retire as a Captain.
He worked at Carswell Air Force Base for East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce) for 18 years after his retirement from the Air Force.
A resident of Fort Worth, Texas for 46 years, Richard enjoyed puzzles, reading, and playing with his dogs, collecting sports cards and memorabilia, as well as being an active member of the Broadway Baptist Church community. Chief among his interests, however, was his passion for education, being a recipient of numerous degrees including a doctorate of education.
Being a native of Pittsburgh, Richard adored his Steelers and Pirates, watching them play every week.
Richard is preceded by the memory of his parents, his sister Susan Zagrocki, and his beloved wife Lily Zagrocki. He is survived by his 2 sons, Paul Zagrock 61, and Richard Joseph Zagrocki 46, the memory of David Zagrocki, and his 3 grandchildren, Leupold Zagrocki, 34, Theodore Joseph San Juan, 30, and Zachary Zagrocki, 25.
Richard was many things to different people, but we will remember him for his kindness, generosity, and that he was a true gentleman.
