Raymond William New

Raymond William New, born February 17, 1941, in Bosque County, Texas, the first born son of Woodrow Wilson and Lida New.

In June of 1961, Raymond married the love of his life, Lavada Seely. They made their home in Fort Worth until 1978, when they moved to Crowley, Texas. Their marriage was a remarkable partnership that lasted 61 years, until Lavada’s passing in 2022.

Raymond is survived by his brother, Alton New, of Granbury, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Mary Ward and Ladena McDonald.

Raymond and Lavada raised three children who brought them great pride:

• Sarah Riese (Paul) of Fort Worth

• Rhonda Marshall (Don) of Burleson

• Kevin New (Kellee) of Arlington

Raymond was a man who found joy in simple pleasures and shared them generously with others. He loved fishing and never missed a chance to watch a sports game. Especially, when his beloved Texas Rangers or Dallas Cowboys were playing. One of the highlights of his life was attending Game 2 of the 2023 World Series, a memory he cherished deeply.

He was also known for his love of dominoes. If you visited Raymond, you were almost guaranteed to end up at the domino table. If you didn’t know how to play, he would teach you with patience and enthusiasm. And no matter how confident you felt, Raymond had a way of winning—every single time. His sharp mind and competitive spirit made every game memorable.

In quieter moments, Raymond enjoyed classic western TV shows and movies, a pastime that brought him comfort and familiarity throughout his life.

Raymond is remembered with love by his six grandchildren: Paul Riese II, Bryan Riese, Kyle Riese, Emily Luu, Hannah Bacon, and Kaden New.

He delighted in spending time with his four great grandchildren: Savannah Riese, Elijah Luu, Olivia Luu, and Lennon Bacon, and he looked forward to welcoming another great grandchild soon.

Raymond was a longtime member of Hallmark Baptist Church, attending faithfully until his health declined. He especially enjoyed being part of Hallmark’s Super Seniors group, where he found fellowship and friendship.

He remained in Crowley for many years until his health needs required a change. He then moved into the home of his daughter and son in law, Sarah and Paul Riese, in Fort Worth, where he was lovingly cared for.

Raymond’s life was marked by devotion—to his family, his faith, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful. His legacy lives on in the many people who loved him and the countless memories he leaves behind.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 29, 1 PM at Hallmark Church, 4201 Risinger Rd. Fort Worth, TX 76123.
