Dr. Randall “Randy” R. Romig of Dallas, Texas passed away on January 30 at the age of 72. The second of four children, Randy was born on May 2, 1952 in Norman, Oklahoma to Bruce and Jerri Romig. The family later moved to Amarillo, Texas.
Randy graduated from Tascosa High School in 1970, graduated from Amarillo College in 1972, received a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1975, received an M.S. from the Ohio State University in 1980, and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1990.
Randy worked for the ATF in Dallas for a few years. After receiving his Masters Degree, Randy worked as assistant for Dr. Joseph Goldstein and Dr. Michael Brown, 1985 Nobel Prize winning doctors for their research in cholesterol. After completing his PhD, Randy worked for the EPA in Dallas as an Environmental Scientist for over 20 years.
Randy was avid and extensive traveler and wine enthusiast. He traveled all over the world for many years, collecting memories, art work, and wines from all over. He loved to share his passions with friends and family.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Georgia “Jerri” Romig. He is survived by his brother, Michal Romig of Indianapolis, Indiana, sisters Pam Cardwell (Louie) and Jan Romig of Amarillo, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncle.
The family would like to thank Bristol Park Assisted Living and Interim Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Randy in his final days.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Oklahoma City. Randy was a loved and treasured person that we will miss dearly.
