

Paula Ready Monroe passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the age 78 after a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born on August 28, 1945 to Roy and Charlotte Ready in Dallas, Texas where she grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas and attended Grand Prairie High School.
Paula graduated from East Texas State University with a BS in Education where she met the love of her life, Fred Monroe. She later graduated with Honors from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BS in Nursing.
Paula worked as a ICU registered nurse, and for many years, she cared for her patients as a home health nurse.
While raising her three children, Paula enjoyed participating as an alumnae of Alpha Phi sorority, sewing, knitting, ceramics, and quilting. Some of her fondest memories over the years were spending time with her extended family and friends at the beach in Port Aransas. As an only child, Paula especially loved being part of the Monroe family’s large holiday celebrations.
Her love of gardening was apparent year round by the colorful pots and landscape she created at her home.
Paula loved animals and had numerous pets including Siamese and Persian cats, along with many dogs, fish, and birds. Later her interest in Ragamuffin cats led her to enter and show this unique breed in cat shows in several states.
As a retiree, Paula loved traveling and playing pickleball with Fred and their Robson Ranch friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Roy Ready and Charlotte Benningfield Shanks, and daughter, Amy Monroe Johnson.
She is survived by her husband Fred Monroe, son Chris Monroe and his wife Colleen, and son Stephen Monroe along with grandchildren MacKenzie Waid, Joey Waid, Chloe Monroe, Ashlyn Porter, Brendan Johnson, and Lauren Johnson.
The family would like to thank our extended family and friends for the love and support for Paula over the past several years. Also, the family would like to thank Silverado Memory Care of Southlake for the care and compassion they showed our loved one for the past 2 years. Lastly, a special thank you to Raymond Wheeler for his many years of guidance and treatment.
Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral at St. Laurence Anglican Church located at 519 N. Kimball Ave.,
Southlake, TX 76092 on October 14th at 11:00 a.m.
