Patricia Ann Cannon, 77, died peacefully surrounded by family on September 28, 2017 in Denton, Texas. At the time of her death, she was battling two different forms of cancer: Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Travis Howard Cannon; her children, Deborah Kay Krauth (Walter) of Newnan, Georgia; Travis Howard (Ward) Cannon II (Melisa) of Corinth, Texas; Christopher Todd Cannon (Cheryl) of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her sister, Carolyn Marie Clark (Doug) of Morganton, North Carolina and brother William Earl Smith Jr. (Linda) of Americus, Kansas.
Born as Patricia Ann Smith on October 8, 1939 in Emporia Kansas, to Marjorie Jean Holland and William Earl Smith, “Patsy” (as she was known by her siblings) grew up on a farm near Americus, Kansas, and was raised by her grandparents Estella Mae Smith (Nichols) and Chester Clyde Smith. She graduated from Americus High School and Emporia State University.
Soon after graduating from college, she married Travis and moved to Texas. During the first few years of marriage, Pat and Travis relocated to different towns across Texas following construction projects, until they established roots and raised their children in Carrollton, Texas. Pat was a school teacher for several years and then she launched into a 40 year career in residential real estate. During her real estate career, she became a broker, started her own real estate agency, managed real estate agencies and was regularly recognized as a leading seller in the Dallas real estate market. As empty nesters, she and Travis relocated several times, including moves to Bulverde, Sugarland, and Boerne, before finally settling in Denton, Texas.
Besides having an established career, Pat was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring Grandma. Throughout the years she always had a dog or two as part of the household and she loved and spoiled them as if they were another one of her children.
She was very principled, strong willed, and independent and imprinted those qualities on her children as well as many others in her life. If she had an opinion about something, she was never bashful about sharing it with you, whether solicited or not. Even though outspoken much of the time, Pat was very charitable and always seemed to be helping somebody who needed guidance, encouragement, and support.
Over the last 20 years, she spent more and more of her time caring for her husband Travis who suffers the effects of Parkinson’s. Through it all, she remained dedicated, positive and maintained a great sense of humor. Between time caring for Travis, sewing, cooking, researching and trading stocks, she would often be corresponding with friends and recycling email and internet jokes.
She led an adventurous life that included living overseas in Jordan and trips to: Israel, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Greece, Holland and Syria.
At her request, Pat is being cremated and the family will be conducting a private remembrance service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.
