She was the youngest of 15 children born to Camilo and Vincenta (Herrera) Lopez on April 17, 1942, in Dodge City, KS, where she attended school and graduated from St. Mary’s high school. She met her husband, Baltasar P. Esquibel, Jr., while selling tickets for the American GI forum Queen event. The two united in marriage on October 9, 1967, at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. She resided in Dodge City until her retirement when she relocated to Arlington, TX.
She began her career in healthcare at St. Anthony’s Hospital and retired in May 2008 as a highly sought after phlebotomist from the Dodge City Medical Center. Her greatest joy came from cooking for her family and friends, always planning for the next meal. She especially enjoyed baking her delicious banana bread and favored pumpkin bar. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends playing games, particularly Spinners, where she insisted on being the domino shuffler. She loved a good competition and made it a priority to attend the sporting events of her kids and grandkids over the years. She was never late and had a strong work ethic that was ingrained in her children, their spouses, and grandchildren.
She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 15, 2017, and she loved writing letters to her neighbors, family and friends to share the bible’s hope for a better future. She spent many hours in service, public witnessing at nearby parks.
She is survived by her husband, 3 children, Rachel Martinez, Dodge City, Charlie (Nikki) Esquibel, Wichita, KS, Dr. Anthony (Veyra) Esquibel, Arlington, TX, 5 grandchildren, Amber (Mark) Shelton, Natalie Esquibel, Mirissa (Chad) Kelley, Dr. Lauren (Jacob) Carpenter, Logan Esquibel, 5 great grandchildren, Angel and Jaiden Garcia, Yaneli Morales, Kye and Hudson Kelley, and baby Carpenter expected in October 2024, 5 sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, Bernardo, Sal, Joe, Leo and Manual Lopez, 4 infant sisters, 5 infant brothers, and 2 great grandsons, Jesse and Isaac Martinez.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2892 Ragland Rd, Mansfield, TX 76063. Cremation has taken place. A family gathering will be held after the service, at which time the location will be provided.
