Kurtis Lee Stookesberry, age 63, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at Vitas Hospice Hospital in Fort Worth. He was born May 16, 1961 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to the late Richard Stookesberry and Sandi Mills. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1979.
Kurt moved to Arlington, Texas in the early eighties and became a skilled roofing contractor. If you ever rode around town with him he took great pride in pointing out all the buildings that had his handy work, and there are many. He spent the last 25 years at Cardinal Roofing as a sheet metal foreman.
Kurt met his “Lovey” Tammy when they lived in the same apartment complex in 1985. While his charm and good looks won her over instantly it wasn’t until he took her to Waffle House on their first date that she realized he was a keeper. After dating a few years they were married in 1988 in Fort Worth.
Kurt’s oldest son Tyler married Jodi Lamb and they gave Kurt his first grandchild. Karter is 12 and him and Pa enjoyed sleepovers and playing board games. Trenton, his second son married Lindsay Russell and they gave Kurt his first granddaughter. McKenzie is 11 months old and Pa enjoyed her sleepovers and watching all the milestones that come along with a baby.
Kurt was a long time member of the Arlington Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golfing every Saturday morning with his golf buddies. After golf it was inside the Lodge to sit at the golfers table and enjoy a cold one. If not at the Elks golfing he enjoyed trips with Tammy, watching and cheering for the Hawkeyes, Dallas Cowboys and watching golf. His love of playing golf rubbed off on both his sons and his happiest moments were playing golf with them.
Kurt was preceded in death by Richard Stookesberry and is survived by his wife Tammy, Tyler and wife Jodi, Trenton and wife Lindsay, two grandchildren, his mother Sandi, loving in-laws, brother, sisters, nephews, nieces and a host of long time friends.
The Memorial service will be held on June 21st at 1:00 P.M. at the Arlington Elks Lodge.
