Karen Katherine Spencer of Euless, Texas passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the age of 76. She was born on February 17, 1950 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Karen was a police officer for over thirty years, retiring from her service with the Addison Police Department in 2015. Karen’s last assignment, prior to her retirement, was as a detective, where she worked to seek justice for victims of sexual offenses and other crimes of violence.
Karen was actively involved with animal rescue groups. Prior to her passing she volunteered with Matilda’s Garden for several years. She loved caring for her furbabies.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Evelyn King, her brother Kurt King, her half-brother Joe Bramer, and her beloved son Phil Burghard.
Karen is survived by her spouse, Warren Spencer. She is also survived by her sister Janice Taylor, and her brothers Curtis, Randy, Mark, Mike, and Doug as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dewanda and Sylvia for the care and compassion they showed Karen in her final days. It was truly heartwarming to watch Karen and Dewanda cheer on teams during the FIFA soccer finals, even though both admitted to knowing nothing about soccer.
Karen did not want a memorial service. She was content with friends and loved ones remembering her as she was in life – not as she was in her final days. In lieu of a memorial service family and friends are invited to make donations to Matilda’s Garden cat rescue organization at matildasgarden.org.
I miss you my love.
