John Arthur Harrison was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Ralph and Edna Harrison on January 29, 1936. John grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, until his teenage years when he moved with his family to Indiana, graduating from Anderson High School. He served in the U. S. Army, stationed in Germany, and concluded his military career with an honorable discharge as Sergeant. He earned a business degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. John started his insurance career with CNA Insurance Company in Kansas City, Missouri, and continued to work in the industry in sales & marketing for several companies in Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas. In 1981, John’s last professional transfer was to Texas and in 1987, he and his wife Marty settled in Flower Mound. In 1990 he started his own insurance brokerage firm and was active in the business until his death.
In addition to John’s love and devotion to his family, and his perpetual desire to learn, John’s passion was all things sports. He was a walking encyclopedia of sports trivia and facts; especially close to his heart were the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and Kansas City Chiefs. John knew these teams’ histories well and was able to recount any detail or statistic about the game and players.
John passed away at the age of 80 on October 27, 2016, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Grapevine, Texas. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by a daughter, Whitney, and sisters Leona Colvill and Joan Fevurly.
John is survived by his wife, Marty Harrison; his eldest daughter Jonette Miller and her partner Jairo Villa of San Antonio; his youngest daughter Tiffany Harrison and partner Austin Green of Euless; his grandchildren, Drew Miller of West Layfette, IN, Mikayla Miller of Albuquerque, NM, and Victoria Villa of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
