Jean Louise Baggerly was born on February 28, 1928 in Beijing, China to American missionaries John and Margaret Bickford. She lived in China with her family until age 13 when she moved to California. After graduating from Occidental College and living in Sri Lanka for two years, she moved to Fort Worth in 1959. She was a loving mother to son Philip and daughter Jennifer; a skilled kindergarten teacher for Forth Worth ISD for 20 years and for the US Department of Defense elementary school in Mannheim, Germany for 11 years; an adventurous traveler who visited over 80 countries; a faithful member of South Hills Christian Church and Quaker Friends Society for over 50 years; an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, League of Women Voters, and the Modern Art Museum docent group; and a dedicated grandmother to Philip and Elizabeth’s children, Susanna Claire Baggerly and John Thomas Baggerly, and Jennifer’s daughter, Katelyn Jean Baggerly. At the age of 91, Jean comfortably and peacefully passed onto glory on October 1, 2019. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held October 12 at 10:30 am at South Hills Christian Church, 3200 Bilglade Road, Fort Worth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Fort Worth Meals of Wheels.
