James Domer Crawford, affectionately referred to by close friends and family as Jim, passed away suddenly from a brief illness at home February 14th, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born 2/28/1939 in South Connellsville, Pennsylvania.
Jim graduated from Clearview High School in Lorain, Ohio in 1957 where he was Senior Class President. In 1958, he married his teenage sweetheart, Ada Worthington. He started his career as a barber in Sheffield, Ohio, later opening his own successful barber shop for 10 years. Jim’s love for aviation led him to pursue his lifetime career as an Air Traffic Controller in 1969. During his 30-year career, Jim worked at some of the busiest En Route Traffic Control Centers in the country including Cleveland, Chicago, and Dallas Fort Worth. Jim ended his career with the FAA as a Supervisor in 1999. After retirement, Jim continued as an instructor in Air Traffic at the University of Oklahoma.
Jim and Ada shared their appreciation of American antiques and had a successful business for several years, taking them on many adventures across the country.
Jim volunteered his time in many ways including serving in the US Army reserves, the Ostomy Association of America, and most importantly as a dedicated caregiver to his life long love, Ada.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ellen Crawford and brother Arthur “Bud” Crawford. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Ada Crawford, children Floyd Crawford, Kim Crawford and Carolyn Hill and her husband Danny, grandchildren Zac Kucish and wife Sloane, Samantha Hill and husband Reggie, Ashley Shabareck and husband Michael, Taylor Nast and husband Spencer, Cole Crawford, 7 great-grandchildren and brother Larry Crawford and wife Anne of Wellington, Ohio.
Jim will especially be remembered as being a devoted husband, father, grandfather and for his unwavering patriotism.
A private memorial will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter.
