Howard Allan Savage

Howard Savage, of Arlington, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Mr. Savage was born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 1, 1946 to Jack and Jewel Savage, residents of Looxahoma, Mississippi. Though Mr. Savage grew up in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, he returned to Looxahoma each summer to visit his grandparents.

He graduated from high school in Okmulgee, received a Bachelor degree from Oklahoma City University, and Master’s degrees from Southern Methodist University, the University of North Texas, and Johns Hopkins University. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Early in his career, Mr. Savage was employed by the United Methodist Church as a Research Associate and by the Texas Department of Community Affairs as a Housing Researcher. He retired from the Department of Commerce in Washington D.C. as a Supervisory Housing Economist. Over the years, he taught for the University of Oklahoma, Hood College, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland Global Campus. He continued to work as a professor until his passing, having taught more than 500 people how to start their own business. Mr. Savage had owned three businesses himself – Alpha Investment Management Corp. in Columbia, Maryland, the American Mortgage & Investment Corp. in Maryland, and Alpha Investigation Research Services in Arlington, Texas.

Mr. Savage was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with family, leather-crafting, playing the pedal steel guitar, jewelry-making, and learning about any subject that caught his interest.

He is survived by his wife Edna Savage, his daughter Thea Haver, his stepdaughter Carolina Suarez, granddaughters Sarah and Sophie Jimenez, his brother Roger Savage, and his sister Joyce Alfred. He is predeceased by his parents, his grandparents Jay and Estelle Savage of Looxahoma and Henry and Rose Mantooth of Henryetta, Oklahoma, and his brother Curtis Savage.

Mr. Savage will be buried in the Looxahoma Community Cemetery in Mississippi. His headstone reads: Praise God, Love Jesus, Embrace the Holy Spirit. There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
