Gordan was born in Dallas, Texas to Albert Luther Taylor and Esta Lena Ballard Hawthorne on December 30, 1940. Gordon attended Wilmer Hutchins High School and at the age of 18, enlisted in the Navy, where he served two stints and obtained the rank of E-6. As part of this service, he was a part of the Helicopter Anti-Warfare Squadron, and sailed on numerous aircraft carriers, including the maiden voyage of the USS Kittyhawk. He received the following honors while serving: Armed Forces National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 bronze star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Gordon was a loving father and grandfather and is survived by his son Barry Taylor and wife Jackie; daughter Rebeckah Stephens and husband Terry; Brother Mark Hawthorne and wife Betty; Grandchildren, Barry Taylor, Jr; Chelsea Gilley; Jamie Salgado and husband Erick; Jeremy Veine and wife DJ; Trisha Hughes and husband Cameron; Rebecca Taylor; and 8 great grandchildren.
Gordon is preceded in death by his father Albert Luther Taylor, mother Esta Lena Hawthorne, sister Janie Armstrong, brother Paul Taylor and grandson Leslie Gilley, Jr.
A graveside service for family and close friends of the family will be held on April 20, 2022 at 12:45 pm at the Dallas/Ft Worth National Cemetery.
