Gene Edward Hamilton, 88, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017. He is survived by his late- in- life wife, La Verne Lewis, and by his daughters and their families: Peggy Hamilton and her husband Frank Garner; Barbara Hamilton Primus and her husband Paul; and Elizabeth Hamilton Jutila and her husband Lauri. Gene was born in Carbondale, IL, and graduated from High School in St. Louis. He has AB and BS degrees from Columbia University, an MS degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware, and completed the requirements for an MS in business administration at the University of Delaware. After serving his required years in the Army, he worked as a chemical engineer for many years before starting a second career as owner of a consulting and employment agency. Self- taught computer expertise moved him into his last career as a teacher of computer software and hardware, from which he finally retired. As a volunteer, Gene sponsored several handicapped and integrated Scouting groups. Later he taught computer usage to Sr. Education classes and was active in various campus activities. Interment will be in Carbondale, IL, in a private service. Gene touched many lives during his lifetime and he will be missed.
