Frederick Dudley Freeman died on August 3, 2023 at his home in Colleyville, Texas. He was 80 years old. Fred was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 24, 1942 and raised in Lufkin, Texas, graduating from Lufkin High School in 1961. He attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1966 and an MS degree in 1972. Fred served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, with active duty in Vietnam.
Upon his completion of his military service, Fred worked for Bell Helicopter Textron as a structural engineer for his entire professional career.
Fred was a passionate clarinetist and played in many amateur orchestras over the years. Among his other interests and talents, Fred was an avid knot tyer and found an astounding number of uses for the complex knots he mastered.
Fred is survived by his two nieces, Karen Woodward of Lindale, Texas, and Kathryn Marshall of San Luis Obispo, California, his grandniece Jane Fisher and his grandnephews, Nathan Taylor and Marshall Fisher.
Fred also cherished his relationships with Rosemary Freeman and Marcia Morgan, and his many friends at the local restaurant Bacon's, where he ate regularly and beguiled fellow diners and staff with his wide-ranging musings on all manner of science and an occasional spattering of politics. He will be missed by all.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Rouse & Hortense (Ellis) Freeman, sister, Nancy (Freeman) Marshall, his grandnephew, Zachariah Taylor and great grand nephew Zane Taylor.
