Grandpa was known in the neighborhood for his unique welded creations he displayed in his yard. He was so festive with his Christmas lights. You could see his house and yard lit up from a mile away! I will always have those memories of holiday celebrations at grandma and grandpa's house and the tractor rides that he proudly took us on. He was an inspiration with his attitude on health and wellness. Never stay still and eat right and drink a little "juice" every day.
– Granddaughter Veronica
I will always remember grandpa’s sense of humor and love for making something from just about anything. Grandpa will be missed and will be forever in our heart.
– Granddaughter Cecelia
To Grandpa Ortega in heaven:
I wanna say thank you for always telling me to work hard, always told me to never give up when I really needed to hear that, to keep myself busy and to always stay out of trouble. Well it took me a while to get all that down but I guess that's a part of life. I'm glad you at least you were able to see and enjoy some of my work and skills, I remember you scratching your head, taking a sip and saying,"Oooh well I'll be damn... you do know a little something" then gave me that grandpa laugh. Never told you enough but I LOVE YOU and May GOD Bless your Soul in heaven!
– Grandson Michael
We loved Grandpa’s creativity in all his artwork and who needs to pay for a high dollar alarm system when you can use farm animals such as turkeys and ducks. Love you grandpa.
– Granddaughter Kellie, great-grandsons Jordan and Alex
Grandpa pinching three generations of grandkids on the check, watching old westerns, welding beautiful pieces of artwork, having farm animals; eating fish, chicken wing soup, any kind of sweets, and drinking a “wellness tonic” every day promptly at 6:30 pm, are just few of the memories I will always cherish in my heart. We are all sad you are not here with us but we know you are at peace. And knowing that grandma is by your side will give us some comfort as we mourn your passing. Say hello to Uncle Frank, Joseph, Leonardo, Senobia, and Ramon, it’s their turn to take care of you now. Watch over us and keep us safe as we make our way through this crazy wonderful thing called life. Love you grandpa.
– Granddaughter Teresa
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 10 am at Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos – St. Theresa, 2601 Singleton Boulevard, Dallas.
