She graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Anne married Lt. James L. Shanahan on October 21, 1955. She was a great military wife, teacher, Red Cross volunteer, supporter of many organizations involving the armed services, children, animals and the local areas where she lived, but most of all, a loving, caring, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a true friend. Her faith in God was unwavering.
Her hobbies included counter cross-stitch, knitting, crossword puzzles, sewing, cooking and putting together puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters: Tara Shanahan of Carlsbad, NM and Erin (Jim) Shaulis of Ashton, IL, 4 grandchildren, Brad Shaulis, Tracy (Mike) Murphy, Colleen (Christopher) Daniels, and James P. Shanahan and 4 great-grandchildren, Sierra N. Shaulis, Rian W. Shaulis, Adelynn R. Murphy, and Ruby Anne Murphy.
She was preceded in death by, her husband, Ret. Col. James L. Shanahan USMC, and her son Ret. Master Sergeant Frank J. Shanahan USAF.
A private memorial service will be held at The Living Word Lutheran Church
