Rita spent her early adulthood working at NA Woodworth in Michigan then dairy farming in Wisconsin. She was married to Alden L. Olson in 1941. She proudly worked for 25 years in the General Motor’s Photographic Department (National Historic Landmark). Her first project was on the classic 1957 Chevrolet.
Visiting with family and friends was Rita’s passion and delight. She married Michael H. Seiler in 1981, and they enjoyed their retirement traveling America, Canada, and Mexico in their motorhome. Her happiest moments were summering in her house located on Round Lake in her beloved Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She loved to host and entertain and frequently had friends and relatives stay at her house. She loved her time in Curtis, Michigan, and made many lifelong friends there.
Rita was a passionate gardener and at the age of 80 became a Master Gardener through Michigan State University. She was a voracious reader of books including all manner of novels, history, and biographies. A talented dressmaker, sewer, and knitter, she produced many clothes and afghans that are treasured heirlooms by their recipients.
Preceded in death by six siblings and both husbands, Rita is survived by her children, David L. Olson; Christina Olson Uhlir; John H. Olson; Douglas A. Olson and his wife, Luz; her grandchildren, Melody Olson; Raymond Uhlir; Eric Uhlir; Claire Florio; Beth Olson; Erica Hussey; and Victoria Olson; and her great-grandson, Rocco Florio. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Rita requested a private burial and funeral. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last illness.
