Edith Yentis

Edie enjoyed 81 fulfilling years from May 17, 1942, until June 4, 2023. Growing up in Fort Worth, Edie was the eldest daughter of Homer and Ann Tomlinson, with two younger sisters, Diane and Susan Tomlinson.

Edie was gifted with a level of kindness toward others that could hardly be matched. A brilliant student all through school, she excelled at TCU and later at UTA where she earned a master’s degree in social work. While visiting cousins in Fort Worth, her forever Philadelphia love, Richard Yentis, met Edie over discussion of a book. They married in 1964, and raised their two children, Amiee and Richard Jr.

Edie and Richard also raised their four grandchildren, Wesley, Sam, Max, and Amanda, all of whom have gone on to attain their own paths of success as well.

Edie’s career was always geared toward helping others as a counselor at Jewish Family Services, a long career in private practice, and a stint as Confirmation teacher at Congregation Beth-El. Edie and Richard were also devoted patrons of the arts, hosting more than a few Van Cliburn contestants in their home. Edie was also a docent at the Fort Worth Zoo for many years.

Edie is survived by her sister, Diane Tomlinson, daughter Amiee Neathery and her husband Charles Neathery; son Richard Yentis, Jr. and his wife Izabela Gheorghisor; grandson Wesley Richard Garner and his wife Lillian Levin, grandsons Samuel Tomlinson Garner, Maxwell Benjamin Garner and granddaughter Amanda Suzanne Garner. Edie’s sister, Susan, predeceased her long ago.

Above all, Edie was a warm and caring soul, always with a quick wit and her signature smile.
